Luke would have only known Rey was a Palpatine once he reconnected with the the force. This 'Sequel Trilogy' has been quite divisive since the beginning. If you're a hater, it's unlikely this movie will change your mind (that was made up before seeing it. Those who felt Last Jedi veered too far off course will be happy to know that J.J. Abrams has course-corrected with Rise of Skywalker. The trio of Poe/Rey/Finn, which were largely separated in TLJ (much to its detriment) thankfully share lots of screentime together here. I've seen criticisms of this movie having 'too much' going on it, but I actually thought it was easier to follow than its predecessor/didn't feel as 'scattered.
Rey, who's had every criticism/label/insult thrown at her, shows she's not as 'perfect' as some claim. Her main flaw is that she seems determined to do the whole 'lone wolf' thing, wandering off by herself umpteen times throughout the movie which causes problems. She's also struggling with memories of her family she lost, her 'connection' with Kylo Ren (which causes her to lose focus at times) and other issues. It's a lot, and she sometimes doesn't make the best choices, but Rey is a hero, pure and simple (whether some wish to accept it or not. She makes mistakes, but she also makes sacrifices. While we finally get definitive answers regarding her parentage/heritage, the main message of this film is that one can *choose* their that's what Rey's journey has been all about.
Finn, whose character was done a disservice in TLJ, bounces back thanks to spending the majority of his screentime with Rey and Poe. He's not stuck as 'comic relief' but rather shows that he too is a hero. His friendship with Rey and Poe was one of TFA's strengths, and it's good to see that remembered here. Poe and Rey share quite a bit of screentime together (making up for the lack of it we'd gotten previously. They argue quite a bit, but clearly care for/respect each other. The trio was always the 'heart' of this trilogy, and they're treated as such.
Leia is given the respectful send-off she deserves due to the late Carrie Fisher's passing. It's a credit to these movies that she's played such a significant part/left a lasting impression. Her connection to several of the main characters is given the appropriate emotional 'weight' they deserve, and there's at least couple of pleasant surprises regarding her character. Chewie, meanwhile, not only gets significant emotional moments, but also finally something that's been coming his way for a LONG time now. That's one thing this movie has going for it, the fact that it *respects* the franchise (despite what some might think/claim.
C-3PO, who's often been relegated to 'comic relief' butt of jokes, actually gets some significant emotional moments here, and thus treated 'properly. R2 isn't given much to do, though. BB-8 has been a welcome addition to the franchise, while a new droid, D-O, feels like one droid too many. Lando's back, and while he mightn't have a 'big' role, it's still important. If there's any 'negatives' to the film, it's the introduction of several new characters that don't really get enough time for us to care about them (the third movie in a trilogy is a bit late to be bringing in so many newbies.
As for the villains, General Hux, surprisingly, proves to be not entirely useless/more than just the universe's buttmonkey he appeared to be in TLJ, while Kylo Ren has rebuilt his his character is the better for it. He regains some of that 'menace' he had back in TFA before he removed his mask (least it covers his mopey/pouting face. While I've never been a fan of his Darth Vader wannabe character, I'll admit this movie goes to great lengths to give him some actual *depth* complexity. His 'connection' with Rey also has layers to it. Some choices made regarding their 'relationship' may well prove 'controversial' but in the end it feels like a decent conclusion to their intertwined story.
To the surprise of NO ONE (thanks to the trailers) Emperor Palpatine has, thankfully, his make-up has him looking more like his old self from RotJ (this movie goes a long way to making up for the WTF-ness that was Palpatine's appearance in RotS. He's also toned down the over-the-topness a bit too. It makes sense that a 'Big Bad' needed to be brought in to replace Snoke after what happened in TLJ, as Ren just wasn't going to cut it.
Whatever you might think of Abrams as a director, one can't deny his eye for iconic shots/scenes in movies. This film has a quite a few. Some are beautiful, others creepily atmospheric, but there's some very memorable ones here. Visually, the film is stunning. The action's exhilarating, but easy to follow/non-chaotic, the film's pace feels much improved from TLJ, and the story feels coherent. Unlike certain earlier films in the franchise, the nods to the 'Original Trilogy' here feel just right/not overdone, and the cameos from certain characters (if not physically, then at least in voice) are just the right amount.
It seems like the debating of what is and isn't considered 'true Star Wars' will be never-ending. There were complaints of TFA being 'too similar' to ANH, then other complaints of TLJ being 'too different. It seems like certain people don't know WHAT they want; while others have decided the prequel films are 'great' in comparison to these sequels films, conveniently forgetting/ignoring the vast array of problems the prequels had. To that I say (here's an oldie but a goodie) you can't please everyone. If you've made up your minds to hate these new films, nothing's going to change that. For those with open minds, however, hopefully you're able to acknowledge any 'flaws' in the films whilst not blatantly ignoring all the 'good' in them. For my money, I thought Star Wars was in dire straits after the prequels, but this sequel trilogy breathed life into the franchise again and I'm grateful for that.

I have to admit when I saw the threepio scene I teared up myself. Im going to get so much shit for this but I honestly hated The Rise of Skywalker. I wanted to like it a lot. I wanted to come out of it and say even though there were some bumps in the road, this was a good conclusion but I hated it so much. Rey was unbearable in this movie. I didnt even buy into the whole Mary Sue thing until this movie. I can not believe the way they destroyed Palpatines character in this too. I didnt like The Last Jedi but I hate this one way more. Theres good fan service and than theres fan service with terrible writing. There are just so many things about this movie that I hate. Id still say for anyone to go watch it and form your own opinion. Im honestly surprised how many people like this but Im not going to take away from that. I just hated this movie so much. I just saw this movie after reading a bunch of snowflake men's activists on IMDB giving it 1 star and deciding I'd actually watch the movie and rate it myself. The verdict? This was a fun movie, that wasn't perfect, but had a lot to offer fans of the original and slasher films overall. Not every movie is out to reinvent the wheel, and this one doesn't. But it does enough things well with a different and clever spirit, more than enough to warrant its existence. How so?
Let's start with my favorite aspect of this movie, the mise-en-scene. There were just a lot of really interesting shots in this movie. It was kind of beautiful in the way that people and props were placed on screen. The best example is the opening kill where the woman is made into a snow angel in the snow. Another great example is a complex stairway scene zooming out to show the chaotic nature of the holidays.
Another great aspect of this movie was the characters. It had a likable lead with an interesting back story. She was date raped on campus three years prior and the police didn't believe her. However, unlike the men's rights activist reviews on here, she is more three dimensional than just an angry feminist. In fact, all the characters are, even the one that is an angry feminist. That character receives push back from the other women, showing how nuanced feminism and women's attitudes towards fighting patriarchy can be.
None of the characters come across as one dimensional and there are some great male characters, including a pair of fun love interests (because women can fight for equality and date men, duh. Any men's rights activist who says this movie is about all men being bad obviously haven't seen the movie. It IS a movie about how awful rape culture is, and that's a real thing that should be exposed.
Now to address the elephant in the room: does it respect the legacy of the original. I'd say yes. There are some great call backs, and while the original story isn't used, it lives up to the spirit of the original much more than the earlier remake. What the men's rights activists who trash this movie but glorify the original are forgetting is that the original was about a strong woman who makes the choice to have an abortion. It was kind of feminist itself. Also, just in terms of the tone it hits the mark (minus some supernatural schinanigans that is actually kind of fun. This movie isn't overly gory, which neither was the original, but it is creepy. Back to that mise-en-scene, the shots of the characters being watched through a window on campus or the creepy attic piece are all artfully done.
One last thing that the men's rights activist are ignoring. While the writing/directing team are two women, this movie has the backing of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood right now, Jason Blum. The production values really show. It also has horror legend Cary Elwes in a scene chewing role that is gleefully fun. Additionally, if the men's rights activists even saw the movie, they probably walked out before noticing that the film was dedicated to a man named Victor (not the MO of a bunch of men.
So is this a 1 star trash of a film about how all men are bad? Absolutely not! You might be one step ahead of the plot the whole time, but this is a well done and fun movie that has a lot to offer slasher fans. You don't have to reinvent the wheel to deliver a fun and clever take down of rape culture, which this movie absolutely succeeds at.

No lie, but I was watching this a few hours ago before you uploaded this. This is my favorite slasher film of all time. The story is provocative and still relevant to this day. I love how the killer is never revealed. His existence in the film is totally part of the background. The foreground is about college relationships, abortion, and failures. Failures of ambition, failures of character, failures of relationships, failures of parenting, failures of the police. The irony of having the dead daughter stare out the attic window and no one noticing her is pure horror and genius.

Watch full det er morderen som ringer video. 2019's Black Christmas is, arguably, a reimagining of the original. A remake? Certainly not. But it's clever in the way it plays off certain elements from the first one - kills, corpse staging, etc. It's far from perfect, but it's fun and entertaining. A little heavy-handed at times, but be honest with yourself - first-wave slashers like the original weren't exactly bastions of subtlety. It's got a nice colour palette, well-staged shots, and some clever if pulpy plot devices. Characters range from sympathetic to one-note, which is probably better than most college-kid-horror films.
What is probably most striking about the film is the reaction it's solicited from audiences. For many of the negative reviews read as though they were written by the villains of the film itself. Something to think about, hmm.

I don't care if this is a Feminist message film. Where does saying something is Feminist based okay to basically say We are gonna shit on men and make them out to be all evil. That to me does not make anything okay. Its a nasty film directed at portraying a demographic negatively. If a film today said their agenda was to show all black people as evil and nasty, that film would be banned from release. Its only because feminists play the victim all the time, people think they are allowed to say whatever they want. Personally, I don't see how that is at all an acceptable excuse. I'm glad it bombed and I hope another film like this is never made.

Y do we hav to pay? 😩😩😩😭. The movie had parts that were very hard to watch, I kept thinking I was going to stop the film but I ended up sitting through the entire thing. It was incredible, the realism was unbelievable. I agree that everyone should see it, no one should ever forget that this actually happened and it could happen again. It was both real & surreal. It left me feeling kind of numb. Awesome movie. One of my favorites but did anybody else catch the error in the opening scene involving where Private Pyle? In 1:59, he is standing 3 people to the left of Joker. At 3:20, Pyle is standing 3 to the right of Joker.

Come and See is a bleak and violence look of the Second World War in the small nation of Belarussia in the USSR. It is a powerful, tough but rewarding watch.
The film focuses on Florya (Aleksei Kravchenko) a teenage boy, I guess around 16, who finds a Soviet rifle buried in his village. He is quickly recruited into the Soviet Partisans to join the fight against the Nazis. As the troops are about to leave their base in the forest Florya's commander decides to leave the young man behind. Florya befriends a young, but mad girl, Glasha (Olga Mironova) who was fancied by all the men in the base. Both head back to Florya's village but find that the whole population, including his family had been murdered by the Germans. Florya withdraws and joins a small platoon, leaving Glasha behind. After the platoon is killed Florya ends up in another village just in time for to the Nazis exterminate the population.
Come and See is a war film, but not in the traditional way. You don't see any set piece battles. The director, Elem Klimov, treats the film as an art house film, focusing on Florya's character, lost of innocent, and physical ageing. Many shots focuses on character faces and is shot in a grim style, a symbol of the war. The main theme of is the destruction and madness of war. It show how horrible the war on the Eastern front was, with massive civilian casualties. In historical terms the Germans scored a big own goal because the Soviet population hated Stalin and his regime. Their treated the Germans are liberators, but the Germans never used this public support and ended up killing a large proportion of the population. The character of Glasha to me represents the madness, but surprising incitement, of war. Compared to Florya who was innocent and looses it during the film. Their is also a religious subtext to the film. The title Come and See is a reference of 'The Apocalypse of John. During the film the Horsemen of the Apocalypse are referenced. The title could also mean seeing the apocalypse that the Nazis were causing. Finally whilst watching the film it sort of reminded me of the Medieval period, with the Partisan forces living in a forest in wooden shacks, the villages being medieval in style, with technology and the wooden houses, to the athorities the Nazis forced on the locals.
It is a powerful film about the madness of war. A must see.

In Belarus EUROPEAN NAZIS after 1941-1944 killed 1,5 million Belaruss and + 700 thousand jewries. In the USSR only after 1941-45 27 million persons perished: from them soldiery with a weapon in hands are 10 millions, and 17 millions are the PEACEFUL habitants. And after all of it our soldiers of peaceful Germans did not TOUCH FINGER. Nobody there raped nobody. For it SHOT. it all is NAZI propaganda. Germans lay down under soldiers. About it front-line soldiers told. We are not Europeans-animals.

Youtube have beat quality of this movie. Did you not notice that the german zealot who said some races should not exist is basically saying the same things us politicans drone on and on about. Feed them? who said he fed them, there is extensive rail lines in siberia, and anyone who didn't wanna work might as well just walk out into the cold and die. maybe it's better than starving to death working at a labor camp.

This was one of the unique movies i have ever seen. I'm use to the Bruce Willis movies where Bruce kills 100 bad guys and goes into the sun and is the greatest police officer the world has ever seen. This movie should me the things that actually went on during the war, it's one thing to read about them in the newspaper or book, or hear them from somebody, but to actually witness the things they did to these people. It was inhumane i don't know how anyone could do these things to a animal yet along a human being, it's disgusting.
This movie made me feel so lucky that i wasn't born in the time it took place. I don't know what i would have done if i was the kid in the movie, everything he did was the right thing, if he would have changed anything he probably wouldn't be alive at the end of the movie, but after everything that is happen to him i don't think he is alive anymore. The worst part of the movie that made me extremely sad was when they gather all the people in the village and put them in the barn and then light them on fire. I know it was a movie but as i was watching it i had to think to myself this actually has happened and is happening some where right now and there's nothing we can do. They didn't even let the kids live, they were true animals.

You know, I never did think that the Gundam would actually use the scope module on top of the beam rifle let alone need it. Theres always a parascope thing inside the cockpit that does that lets you zoom in for long range shooting and recon which comes standard for just about any MS. Theres not even a hole in the back for the Gundams eye to look through not that it should need to since it should have really good optical sensors that can see objects from afar. Also doesnt this version seem to imply that Amuro was always meant to be the pilot of the Gundam from the very beginning? In the original, he stumbles onto it and finds it under a tarp. Here, it literally appears before him and calls his name in a sweet, motherly voice. Wouldve been funny if it was Haro in the cockpit with a recorded voice message instead of it being empty.

I've already written a review for Meet Me in St. Louis, and I apologize for having to repeat myself. But given the extreme obnoxiousness of this film I think I can be excused for voicing my opinion twice.
Meet Me in St. Louis tries to make its audience feel good. It tries to be optimistic and idealistic and nostalgic. You're supposed to watch it and feel better for a while. Unfortunately the film completely fails to achieve any of its goals- this supposed ideal vision of heartland America is nothing but a nauseating, racist nightmare. How can so many reviewers say they wish the real world could be more like this? Do you really wish the world was so saturated with color you could barely look at it without going blind? Do you really wish everybody was white and looked like everybody else?
All of the characters are bland and uninteresting, all of the songs are lifeless and completely incidental to the rest of the movie, and the movie's color scheme made me feel like throwing up. The plot is nothing but silly mix-ups, a completely random Halloween bonfire, and bratty girls trying to get indistinguishable men to like them. It's all formulaic drivel. I've never seen a movie as dead as this one.
There's nothing worse than a supposedly cheery movie that just makes you feel bad about yourself. I'd rather be run over by one of those St. Louis trolleys than watch this film again.

An advance team visited the city and did a lot of research, and so the film is both historically correct and understands the city we are meeting in the story.

I'm sure George Bailey must have said that Christmas Eve night, C'MON EVERYBODY, I'LL TREAT YOU ALL TO 'THE BELLS OF SAINT MARYS' DOWN AT THE BIJOU. What a wonderful old movie! This film just drips quality throughout with its terrific direction, acting, singing, writing and production. While not the best MGM film ever made, it certainly is among the best musicals they made. That's because not only are there a modest number of songs, but those in the film are awfully enjoyable- particularly the final song, HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE Christmas. It was pure magic and is probably Judy Garland's best adult performance- she is radiant and on the top of her game.
I think another reason I love this movie so is that it is not just a bunch of songs thrown at the audience, but a very enjoyable slice of life film about a wonderful family filled with great characters. From the tough but loving father to the bratty littlest child (played by Margaret O'Brien in her best performance) they all are special and sweet without being too saccharine.
This makes a wonderful Christmas movie and is best viewed on Christmas Eve with the lights turned low.
FYI- If you have a chance, get a hold of the wonderful two-disk set. The second disk has an amazing set of extras- enough to keep you very busy and very happy. One of the shorts, Bubbles" is NOT good but still well worth seeing despite its creepy characters, as you get to see Judy Garland performing like a pro at age 7.
